Course Overview

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of two main parts:
✅ Assistant Instructor (AI) Course
✅ Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program

Most candidates complete the full IDC, followed by the Instructor Examination (IE) – the final step to becoming a certified Instructor.

Successfully completing the PADI Assistant Instructor Course grants you the Assistant Instructor qualification and allows you to begin gaining instructional experience immediately.

Later, you can progress to the OWSI program, which provides eligibility for the IE and full instructor certification.

Already an Instructor?

Dive professionals certified by another recognized organization can directly enroll in the OWSI program, receiving credit for prior experience and a streamlined path toward full instructor status after completing the PADI Assistant Instructor Course or equivalent crossover requirements.
